Georgia Baseball weekly recap: Georgia earns series win over Missouri

Charlie Condon’s incredible week at the dish helps the Dawgs earn series win over Mizzou

The Georgia Bulldogs wrapped up a successful week of play last night as the Diamond Dawgs were able to pick up a series win over the Missouri Tigers in game three by final score of 10-7. Prior to the Missouri series, Georgia kicked off their week by earning a big 15-5 win over the Kennesaw State Owls. The Diamond Dawgs’ lineup absolutely dominated all throughout as five players accounted for three hits each as the entire lineup went a combined 20-for-40 at the plate on the day. Charlie Condon and Kolby Branch both launched home runs of their own as well as both guys continue to stay red hot at the dish.

Following that win, Georgia kicked-off game one of their three game set against Missouri on Thursday night. Game one would be an absolute slug-fest all throughout as both offenses continuously put runs on the board. Luckily for the Diamond Dawgs, Charlie Condon would have an insane night in the batter’s box. Condon finished his night going 4-for-4 with a single, double, and two home runs as he would fall just a triple shy of the cycle and help propel Georgia to a 15-10 game one win.

Game two would also be back and forth all throughout as it was a close game down to the very last pitch. The Diamond Dawgs held a 4-1 lead going into the seventh inning as the bullpen just needed to try to close things out. Unfortunately, Missouri put together a huge four run seventh inning as they would pull ahead of the Dawgs 5-4. Though the Dawgs were down they continued to fight like they have all season, that fight would pay off in the bottom of the ninth as Kolby Branch would hit a game tying double to put things at 5-5 and send this game into extra innings.

The ninth inning rally would be unable to carry over into the tenth though as the Missouri Tigers would capture the go ahead run to put the score at 6-5. Georgia would be unable to put anything together in the bottom half of the inning as they would eventually drop game two by that score.

The Diamond Dawgs would manage to move on from that loss pretty quickly though as they would get things going quickly in game three. Georgia would put together five total runs in the first two innings as their bats were cooking once again. Two of those five runs would come from the bat of Charlie Condon as Condon mashed his NCAA leading 24th home run of the year to give the Diamond Dawgs a 5-0 lead heading into the third.

Missouri would manage to battle back with four runs of their own in the third as they put the score closer at 5-3. Fortunately for the Dawgs, their bats would not cool off as they added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to put things at 9-5. Along with those bats, Dawgs’ pitcher Kolten Smith had himself quiet the day on the mound as well as he would strikeout ten throughout six innings on the day.

The Tigers would continue to try to comeback all throughout the game but Georgia’s offense would end up to be too much as the Dawgs captured the series win by a final score of 10-7.

Georgia now holds a 27-9 record on the season including a 7-8 record in SEC play. The Diamond Dawgs will now have to wait nearly a week until they take the field once again as they will pick up play Friday night to kick-off a three game set against the Ole Miss Rebels.
