It wasn’t the Bowl game we wanted, but in the end, it was the bowl game we got.

After our performance in the SECCG, many wondered if Georgia would eke their way into the playoffs as the #4 seed, or if they would be left out entirely. With 3 undefeated Power 5 conference champions, and the other 2 conference champions with the same record as us, I not only expected the Dawgs to be left out, but I didn’t expect both Texas and Alabama to move up like they did.

When the committee announced that FSU had fallen to #5, and UGA had fallen to #6, I expected both to come to their bowl games ready to prove the committee had made a mistake. When I realized the teams would play each other, I fully expected it to be a grudge match for the ages.

So clearly, my powers of prognostication are nonexistent. If I predict something, you would be well advised to take the opposite position (except in matters of UGA winning). I completely expected UGA to win the Orange Bowl. I fully expected the game to be much closer than it was. Last year, the margin of victory in the National Championship game was the largest margin ever in a bowl game (58 points). This year, we beat our own record.

However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.

Coach Kirby Smart coached his 110^th game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 94-16 record and a 0.8545 winning percentage, having carded his ninety-fourth win overall in the Orange Bowl against the Florida State Seminoles.

At the identical juncture in their careers:

Vince Dooley’s 110^th game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs win over the Maryland Terrapins in the Peach Bowl of the 1973 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 75-31-5 and 0.7045 percentage.

Coach Mark Richt was 86-24 (0.7818) after a loss to LSU in the fifth game of the 2009 season.

One hundred and ten games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is eight games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 19 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.
