Georgia vs. Alabama - SEC Championship preview

The Dawgs and the Tide meet once again in Atlanta

By the numbers

Statistics wise, Georgia has better numbers than the Tide nearly all across the board as the Dawgs have better numbers in 22 out of 27 offensive categories as well as having better numbers in 20 out of 28 defensive categories. With that being said, the stats don’t ever paint the whole picture as prior to the Auburn game, Alabama was playing their best ball and the same can be said for the Dawgs prior to the Tech game as this game will still more than likely go down to the wire no matter what.

Biggest priority for the Dawgs’ Defense

Its no secret that Georgia’s biggest defensive priority this week will be to contain Alabama quarterback, Jalen Milroe. Milroe has become one of college football’s most exciting players as he is not only a quick and powerful runner, but he also has a cannon for an arm and he is not afraid to show it. Milroe has currently thrown for 2,526 yards for 21 touchdowns along with rushing for 439 yards and 12 touchdowns as he is a very dynamic player. The Dawgs’ defense must keep Milroe in check in order to win this game as Georgia will more than likely have a spy on him at all times along with making sure their defensive back’s don’t get burnt on the back end as Isaiah Bond and Jermaine Burton will look to be major vertical targets for Milroe.

Dawgs’ biggest asset

Georgia’s biggest asset in this game will be their offense as many weapons such as, Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey will be returning in this game. Carson Beck will also look to have a big game as his ten game streak of 250+ passing yards came to an end last week in the win over Georgia Tech. Beck currently has 3,495 passing yards for 22 touchdowns on the season as he will make one last push this week to earn himself a spot at the Heisman trophy ceremony. Along with the Dawgs’ lethal passing game will be a very solid run game as Senior, Kendall Milton has really found his stride in the last couple of weeks as he is coming off of a 156 yard rushing game against Georgia Tech.

What’s at stake?

Overall, this game will determine if there is a true change of the guard in the SEC as the Dawgs had lost the previous seven match-ups against Alabama prior to the 2021 National Championship as many people still see that win as a fluke. This game also determines who will get a spot in the College Football Playoff as the Dawgs will more than likely find themselves on the outside looking in with a loss. Considering there are a few more play-off worthy teams this year more so than previous years, the Dawgs have no room for mistakes as they are hungry to not only prove they run the SEC now but College Football as a whole on their road to a three-peat.
