Friday Morning ‘Dawg Bites: How Healthy Are We?

Good luck, coach.

We haven’t had a healthy top-to-bottom roster all season. Do we get some guys back on Saturday?

Kirby Smart was the usual cryptic self when asked about some of the injuries, specifically Brock, Ladd, Rara and Tate. When asked in Thursday media session, Kirby had this to say:

...I’m trying to figure that out myself. I don’t have a lot more answers now than I had on Monday. They have not been able to do a lot.

He denied holding guys out vs. Tech last Saturday night:

It’s tough because it bothers me that people have said out there that we sat these guys for the last game. That wasn’t the case at all. They couldn’t go.

I’ve got to believe that, of the 3, Brock Bowers is probably the “healthiest” of the bunch and holding him out against Tech was absolutely the right thing to do. As for the others, I’m sure they’ve dealing with some things, but there’s some gamesmanship going on here as well. At least, I hope so. We’ve still got Dillon Bell, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Dom Lovett and Oscar Delp to guide us and these guys have played a ton.

Alabama, on the other hand, could be missing their leading rusher, Jase McClellan, who got nicked last week in their miraculous victory over Auburn.

So, the CFP committee has the task of picking the 4 best teams on Sunday. Does anyone really believe this is how the chips will fall? Kirk Herbstreit has his doubts and he ain’t lyin’.

Cover your ears, Mickey...

As we draw the curtain on The SEC on CBS, the new Conference broadcast partner has released their coverage plan for the 2024 season. There will be an noon SEC game, the 3:30 slot and an evening kickoff. ESPN/ABC has an advantage over CBS in the amount of games and time slots they control for their newly won prize. I suspect we’ll see more evening games in ‘24, but could also see an equal amount of noonerz. Don’cha know that the 3:30 slot that CBS established as “the game of the week” will now be subject to the whims of the Disney executives now? I bet not a single one of them understands what “it just means more” actually means.

So, everyone. How are you feeling about Saturday afternoon? I don’t know about you, but I’ve been as amped up this week as any leading up to our tilt with Bama. I sure hope our players have slept better than I.

If we win, we’re in. If we lose, we’d need some help but it’s not out of the question. Bama might win and still get shut out. There is potential chaos a’ brewing by the time the last game ends on Saturday which is fine. Next year, as the field expands to 12, there will be more chaos but the 4-team field is special. After a grand 10-year imperfect experiment, it all ends in early January. I may feel differently in a few years, but I don’t think I’m going to like the new format. Hope I’m wrong.

Anyway, I just want to leave you with this little tid bit regarding one of, if not, the most important leaders of our team:

Makes ME wanna run through a wall.

As Always, GO DAWGS!
