Kirby Smart’s giant summer of recruiting roll down with a commitment from a giant player out of the Tar Heel State. Greensboro defensive Tackle Jamaal Jarret chose the Bulldogs this evening over fellow finalists North Carolina and Auburn, making him the 15th player in the Bulldogs suddenly growing pledge class.

I’m not calling Jarrett a giant just because he’s a defensive lineman. The young man is certifiably enormous. Undeniably huge. Inarguably immense.

At 6’6, 340 pounds Jarrett is big in the way Jordan Davis is big, which is to say every way imaginable (also, he’ll get bigger- today was only his 17th birthday). Beyond that however he has solidly quick feet for his size (or your size, if we’re being honest). But he also has solid strength and pad level for a taller, longer armed tackle. Like a lot of guys playing as men among boys he will need to learn some finesse to succeed at the college level. But Jarrett has all the tools to be a great one.

In addition to the Tar Heels and Plainsmen Jarrett also counted offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Clemson, LSU, Miami, and Texas A&M, among others. That’s about what you’d expect from a player rated the #2 defensive tackle and #50 player in America by Rivals.

Jarrett’s commitment and the recent pledge of Florida four star linebacker Troy Bowles have the Bulldogs squarely in the #6 spot in the 247Sports rankings. It seems like we say this every year, but the Red and Black’s fifteen commitments are among the lowest total in the top ten.
