Welcome to March, Bulldog Nation. March might be synonymous with leprechauns, Guinness, the color green, and the transition to Spring in many places, but around here our minds start thinking about Spring Practice in the Classic City.

The Dawgs will put the pads on and get back out on the field again on March 18th. When they do, there will be a lot of questions that need answering. Last week we discussed the quarterback room, and last night we dug into what looks to be the biggest question mark for the 2021 Bulldogs.

Georgia’s secondary will be breaking in a lot of new faces this spring, and how quickly the unit gels is likely to be the difference between a win or a loss when the Dawgs face Clemson in college football’s premier opening weekend matchup.

Let’s recap the offseason developments in the secondary. Tyson Campbell is gone to the NFL. Eric Stokes is gone to the NFL. DJ Daniel is gone to the NFL. Tyrique Stevenson transferred to Miami. That’s a ton of production that needs to be replaced.

Georgia does return a steady presence in strong safety Lewis Cine. Opposite him is Christopher Smith. Smith filled in admirably down the stretch for the injured Richard LeCounte, but are his smaller frame and coverage skills a better fit at defensive back?

We look at that possibility, as well as whether Latavious Brini can hold onto the starting position at Star. Will Kirby Smart and his staff decide they want a guy with Brini’s size to help in run support at the position? Or do the cover skills of incoming blue-chippers Nyland Green and Kamari Lassiter provide a better fit in modern college football?

Who will emerge at defensive back? Kelee Ringo was a can’t miss prospect, but we’ve yet to see him play. Can a wily veteran like Ameer Speed finally find his way into consistent playing time in his fifth year in the program?

We take a stab at those questions and more, and we show you tape of the incoming recruits and analyze where their skills might best fit into the lineup. We also give you some clips of the returning contributors as we try to put together the puzzle that is the Georgia secondary.
