This week in the BBFL (Final Edition for 2018 season)

What a game played last Sunday, and it was one for the ages. The game was at Lawson field in the heart of downtown Birmingham, Alabama. There was so many great plays in this championship game. The Bullie Bowl lived up to the hype, and then some. In the first half  not much highlights to speak of, although Northside has 2 great opportunities to break the game wide open if they had not drop the ball. Westside had 2 early turnovers that they would overcome later in the game. Northside would missed a key 2 point play (which would turned out to be the difference later). Westside made some mistakes early on, and could have put up more points in the 1st half if not for 3 straight stalled drives. Before the end of the 1st half, a critical injury to a Westside player (sorry i do not have the name) stopped the game for 33 minutes. It was before the 2 minute warning (@2:44 left in the 2nd quarter) Hope he is okay after that play? After Halftime a joyless 3rd quarter was on display as nobody scored as teams traded back punts and missed 4th down opportunities. Speaking of 4th down, Dustin Woods (who had a great season by the way, regardless) thought he had a 1st down on one of those 4th down plays. The measurement proved otherwise and Westside took over the rest of the game. By the end of 3rd quarter the score will still a one score game (Northside 14 Westside 8). Then when the 4th quarter started, the game got out of hand scoring wise that is. Northside would scored a touchdown early on in the 4th quarter to make it 22 to 8. The Westside sidelined felt a change was coming, besides they know a 3rd defeat to Northside would be equally as bad as the first 2 games. Westside would score 2 big touchdowns during the 4th quarter, before Northside suddenly scored a critical touchdown to take back the lead for the moment. Then the play of the game, a 81 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. I have to admit it was a great play, and i deemed it the ‘Play of the year’ in the BBFL. That touchdown would turned out to be the game winner, and it came with less than 4 minutes left in the contest. Northside (6-0) had not trail that late in a game all season, now all of a sudden was in trouble. Remember most league experts had Northside winning this game. On there last drive, they needed to score or else it was over. In the end, a turnover to Westside and a bunch of penalties (by Northside, try 19 penalties) cost them the Championship. The final score was Westside Wranglers 30, Northside Predators 28. The Wranglers (3-3 in 2018) win the 1st BBFL Championship, and they deserve to win this one. Hopefully we have a 2019 season, in hopes to match this past season. I love this league and want to thank all of those who took part in it, and hope this league continues.
