Track & Field – Tips for beginners

Track & Field is a sport that includes athletic contests, which are based on different activities like:

Running (sprints, middle and long distance events, race walking, and hurdling)

Jumping (long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault)

Throwing (Shot put, javelin throw, discus, and weight)

The name is derived after the stadium that is shaped oval and consists of a running track enclosing a grass field. It is the same place where all these events take place.

But, how does one start to get into these activities? Most of the people usually wonder how to take their first step into this world. They feel confused about starting these activities and moving ahead with the tough ones that will prepare them for the tough ones later on.

Worry not, here we have some common tips for all those who are all set to put their first step into this world.

Look at those tips that every beginner should learn before getting into the Track and Field!

Tips for Beginners

Starting with Runners How do you think you are going to increase the stamina and power to reach the target within the shortest of the time?

1. Begin by finding a coach for yourself first. Not just you will be guided in the right direction, but also train you like no one else.

2. Always start with a warm-up and end with cooling down when exercising. And, do not forget to jog and stretch before you start exercising.

3. Wear racing shoes instead of those regular ones for the perfect grip while running.

4. Give up the inside lanes to the fast runner and choose the outer ones for speeding up your performance with time.

5. Start slowly when running and then speed up each week for increasing the stamina and performance.

6. Motivate yourself, all the time.

And, for Jumpers, here is what you do!

1. When jumping, arms also play an important role in taking you ahead besides strong legs. So, follow a strong workout for strengthening the arms as well.

2. Athletes should never try to get into the pit. And, when you are beginner do not forget that you need to work on basics.

3. When training for the high jump, one of the toughest things to do is nail down the last three steps. The last three steps are for leaning the body away from the bar. So, learn how to go through these steps perfectly.

4. Visualize, as it is an important element of jumping events. Concentrate, as you need to pin down those crowd noise and distractions. Beginners can stare at a piece of paper with a black box in the center for 2-3 minutes and then stare at the blank wall to see the reverse, which is a white box and black wall to improve the focus and attention.

Now, comes throwers!

First thing, beginners need to learn is that javelin is thrown with the entire body. Yes, it might be similar to that football and baseball throwing, but throwing javelin is something that might need different motions. So, focus on your motions, when jumping.

1. Javelin has a sharp point, which is dangerous. So, people who are a newbie to this, they might need to begin with rubber-tipped javelins for the safety purpose. This will keep your hands safe from any injuries.

2. And, for other activities like shot put and discus, all you need to build up is your arm strength. So, start slowly with the exercises that can boost the strength of arm muscles.

With these little yet effective tips, even the beginners can make their way up and boost their speed, endurance, and performance like never before.

So, beginners, try these tips and be ready to strengthen the body and mind for the best performance at track and field.
