Even if you follow a pretty healthy diet, Detox your Body can be an important thing to do. Through various forms of exposure (chemicals, preservatives, pesticides, heavy metals, and air pollution), pretty much everyone has toxins in their body. The way that toxins interact with your biology is quite complicated and requires a medical professional to fully explain or properly investigate.

That said, we can pretty safely assume that toxins increase your chances of disease, they lower your immune function, and overall are damaging to your body. So eating a lot of foods that help your body detox is important, especially if you’re an athlete. Below are our top ten foods for this:

Avocados

Delicious and creamy, avocados are high in fiber and have an extremely high antioxidant count which makes them first on our list.

Broccoli

Your kids won’t be happy but broccoli is another great food for your health on many levels. It specifically works with the enzymes in your liver to boost its ability to turn toxins into something easily eliminable.

Dandelion

Some people might think of this plant as a weed only, but on further inspection dandelion roots are extremely beneficial to your health. Again mixing a bit of this into your diet and be a great liver function booster.

Garlic

Garlic tastes great in sauces and a variety of dishes, oh yeah and it contains some sulfur-containing compounds that fight harmful bacteria and yeast in the intestines. Overall garlic is great for greasing the digestive process.

Ginger

Another great garnish for many meals, any way you can incorporate ginger is a good thing. Ginger has a long history as a digestive aid and its soothing properties allow the body to process food more efficiently.

Grapefruit

Turmeric

Turmeric has many healthy aspects, none the least of which is heavy anti-inflammatory properties that stimulate liver processes and function. Sprinkling this into meals or drinking in tea can go a long ways toward a successful detox.

Water

May be blindingly obvious, but keeping well hydrated is key when trying to flush your system. Drink slightly above the daily recommended amount for more results.

Quinoa

Quinoa is a great staple food to mix in as well. It is low on the glycemic index, high in protein, and packed with essential amino acids. This is a great food to eat large quantities of while in combination with other detoxifying foods.
