A Backgrounder on Tomahawks

A Tomahawk is a special type of Axe or a traditional hatchet extensively used in North America. This hatchet features a straight shaft and is one of the most popular tribal weapons used across the globe. Tomahawks were generally used for food collecting and self defense.

Going back to the history, Tomahawks were used by Native Americans and European colonials as thrown weapon. Best suited for hand-to-hand fights, Tomahawks are generally crafted out of metal. The construction of a tomahawk is made of metal and are generally crafted using the blueprint of Royal Navy boarding axe.


The Algonquian Indians in Native America were behind the actual creation of these Tomahawks. Native Americans attached stone to wooden handles by securing the whole setup by rawhide strips. These primitive American Tomahawks were used for chopping, cutting and hunting activities.
