MY NAME

By The Fillerbuster

The Cast 050119

SETTING:

Ideas organized on Tuesday night.  Mostly written in front of hockey on Wednesday.  Lindsey is out with a friend.  Objective is to finish before the Nuggets tip at 7pm (doable, but optimistic).  The theme will come together for you, as it did through 2-3 individual things over the last three days for me.  But, for the moment, I feel the need…the need for speed.

Let’s turn and burn.

Barely have time to write it in life, so barely edited as you might recognize.  Sorry.  Let’s move.

(mild GOT spoilers, but if you aren’t on this bandwagon yet, when did you plan on joining?  You just had a two-year break!  You plan on catching up and then not being able to enjoy it as things happen with us real fans?  Come on.)

EVERGREEN (topics that don’t fade away):

DRAFT

Hope. Strategy.  Educated guesses.  Guys you know.  Guys you don’t know and have to look up.  Cameo appearances (Reggie Wayne, you are a little long-winded and obviously forgot what city you were in) and cute fans presenting the picks.  Roger Goodell being booed.  Stats of every player off the cuff.  Lee Corso walking off the set before even getting Crazy or throwing a mask on his head.  The NFL Draft is the one game where everyone can excel for a few days and there is a silver lining.  Nashville looked like a fantastic venue for the event, and I admit to feeling a little jealous about not being there (one of my favorite towns AND the NFL in town).  Some teams trade.  Some teams who need a trade don’t.  But, one thing is for certain.  There are projected winners and losers, steals and reaches, but for a few years, NO one is wrong, and that is something.  Everyone had some hope, if only for a few days.

FERGUSON

We hear all of the BAD stories more than we want.  We see some good stories in the media not enough.  And know that this is one of them.  Jaylon Ferguson was a college player projected to going anywhere from end of the first round to fourth round.  He went in the third, and is already viewed as a steal.  Was he in Nashville to go on stage?  No.  Was he around for a phone call?  No.  What was the lad doing?  He was helping tornado victims in Louisiana LIVE.  Survive.  The weekend of the draft, the kid was selflessly helping victims and not near his phone or Nashville.  THOSE stories need to be told more if you ask me.  The kid finished as the NCAA all-time leader in sacks.  And he spent the most important weekend of his life helping others with THEIR sacked lives.  Props, kid.

ESPN MAG

This hurts someone my age.  I can’t speak for everyone, and I do accept digital technology, but ESPN Mag announced it will stop printing in September and be digital only.  This changes my life.  I remember when my favorite magazine of all time stopped printing.  The Sporting News.  I didn’t understand it at the time, but it was the only magazine that had team by team updates in EVERY issue.  I read useless info about teams I don’t follow and LOVED it.  Now?  I get it, I guess, but it still is not optimal.  I have magazines in my bathroom.  I have magazines by my bed.  I take magazines on my trips for the plane.  I prefer to take magazines when I go eat solo at a restaurant.  There are times I have my phone, but don’t want my phone.  I LIKE printed material.  No, I don’t hate trees, but it is more of a thing I had growing up that I don’t want to die.  Fine, I will use my phone and read tiny print.  I won’t like it, but I will do it.  Like when Goose’s wife was asked about flying if something happened to Maverick.  She responded that he’d do it.  He’d have hated it, but he would have done it.

Or, let’s quote it properly:

Carole:
God, he loved flying with you Maverick. But he would’ve done it anyway… without you. He’d have hated it, but he would’ve done it.

I will use my phone.  Dammit.

WEEK-FISH (current topics of interest in sports):

NFL

  • Well, Big Ben might have been the reason that Bell and Brown left, and I guess our only adult in the locker room is around until 2021 now.
  • This Broncos-Chris Harris is so intriguing.  Sure, there have been worse relationships that have mended when they needed to (see “Von Miller”), but how it happens is beyond me.  Not sure how the Broncos can afford the money Harris wants, and the Broncos had a shot at Greedy Williams in the 2nd round and passed on him.  The pieces don’t fit.  But, IF Mr. Elway is serious about this not being a rebuild (and the Flacco signing sort of admits that), then he either needs Harris or a worthy happy replacement and fast.  One way or the other, he shouldn’t have answered that question in the presser like he did and throw flames on this thing.
  • You want an example how players are driving more of the ships these days?  A kicker requested a trade.  Then, a kicker got a FOUR-year contract.  Geez.  Mr. Gould, you are beating the system.
  • If I waited another week to release this blog, I figure I probably could write a piece on how Marshawn Lynch already came back after retiring again, but we can’t keep up with him.  No one can.  I assume we will see Instagram posts in Ireland before we know it.  Bagpipes.
  • That audio script of Tyreek Hill will make you question some things.  Scary, and even scarier that he somehow was going to get off before they tracked that down.
  • The blind Ravens fan who read their pick in Braille was touching and on point.  The slippery slope does scare me a bit though.  Not trying to be insensitive, but I hope the draft doesn’t get into a pissing contest for each team, trying to be more touching and thoughtful than the last team picking.  Here and there is fine and medicinal.  Loved it this year.  Space it out, other teams.
  • I am as entertained by who will be on the Madden cover as anyone.  What scares me is that I was in my peak video game years during the FIRST Madden.  Which followed the Tecmo Bowl years.  Which followed the Atari years.  Ugghh.
  • Of course, DK Metcalf came into a meeting with the Seahawks without his shirt on.  If I was him, I would just wander through life shirtless.  Damn, I wanted him to be a Steeler, and was 4-5 picks away from that happening.
  • I don’t think Elway is showing doubt on his Flacco pickup by picking up Drew Lock.  I also just think he is dodging missing in the first round on a QB again.  No one can berate him in a couple of years.  But, I will say this.  You can dislike his picks, but they had a solid draft, and any way you look at it, he got arguably first round talent in the second round with Lock.  You can’t really argue with that.
  • I believe that the Pats finding a way to draft Jarrett Stidham was better than any bet you could make this weekend on the Kentucky Derby.
  • Sebastian Janikowski will retire.  You can say what you want about him.  He had a solid career.  He made a Pro Bowl.  He won a BCS title.  He made a 63-yard field goal.  And, your days and my days will be done and he will still be able to say a truth that will live until the White Walkers rule the Earth.  He was a kicker drafted in the FIRST round of the NFL Draft.  I consider him the John Daly of football.
  • A punter went early this year in the FOURTH round, folks.  Fourth round for any kicker, and The Polish Cannon was FIRST.
  • I know everyone knows what they are doing, but I am taking Haskins before Daniel Jones, no matter what coaching background or ties to the Manning brothers the kid has.
  • Even Joe Theismann is giving Dwayne Haskins his jersey number.
  • (I had to check to make sure Haskins doesn’t spell his first name weird like Wade)
  • Lie all you want.  If you could get away from work, you would have enjoyed going to Nashville for the Draft party.  We all would have.
  • They might let go of key skill position players and keep raping QB’s, but one thing the Steelers organization has is standards and class.  One of the reasons why I love them.  Hidden underneath all of the draft stories and trades was this morsel.  They will continue to PAY Ryan Shazier, even though he is on the PUP list indefinitely, trying to make a comeback.  That is opening your wallet for all the right reasons.
  • I almost had a heart attack when the Steelers traded UP (with the Broncos ironically) as they never do that.  I like the Bush pick, and they snagged the CB I like (Jayson Lane from MSU) in the third.  They always draft well.  They just can’t KEEP the players apparently these days.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Want to know how to stay at the top in college football?  My only two bullets explain it pretty well.
    • Pay your head coach 10/$93 million
    • Snag the top recruit.
    • They did both and aren’t going ANYWHERE, folks.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

  • I find it beyond interesting.  Ex-Adidas consultant Christian Dawkins is about to go to jail.  He has nothing to gain by saying someone is innocent.  Yet, he took the time to point out that Rick Pitino had no clue what was going on when he was coaching.  No clue.  So, you take this proactive suggestion of innocence along with an Oscar contending performance on 60 minutes or whatever that show was, and just maybe…maybe…I believe Rick was assumed guilty and maybe wasn’t.  Just maybe…
  • The Corruption Case.  I don’t have that kind of free time, but sounds fun to sit in that court room, hearing stories about sneakers full of cash and rotating doors with college coaches in a hotel taking money.
  • Sam and Joey Hauser will transfer from Marquette, unexpectedly to be honest.  This is a downer for Marquette, but might be a great 2020 add for UVA, whom the brothers are looking at.  They have to sit one year.  Lots of holes in Charlottesville.
  • On the UVA topic, WHY would Marco Anthony transfer?  Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome BOTH declare, and the guard on the bench wants to LEAVE?  Must be some serious internal problems, because filling a starting role on a championship winning team doesn’t suck if you ask me.
  • You will also hear about Johnny Juzang reclassifying to a year before.  UVA, UK, and Nova are your front runners for the kid.
  • UVA basketball will not visit the White House because “it is too hard to round everyone up” per Tony Bennett.  Or, it is a political statement dressed up because he is too nice of guy.  Either way works.
  • Not splitting the atom here, but Texas Tech wisely ponied up for Chris Beard and more years.  When you never tasted the Final Four, let alone the title game, you pay that man is money (said in Russian accent). #rounders #thegreatestmovieever
  • Hoop fans know the name RJ Hampton.  It was pretty big news in our circle that he reclassified to 2019.  Who will get him?  His list is four teams.  UK and KU we expect on most five star recruit’s list.  The other two?  Memphis, following Anfernee’s about-to-be-dynasty, and Texas Tech, where Chris Beard just got to the title game.  Hampton calls Beard a basketball genius with the ability to get the most out of less.  If they get Hampton, Beard will just have to get more out of more.
  • Sounds like a fine living.  Ayton apparently was getting $10k/month from Miller.  Basically, he was already making what most people would consider a comfortable living if spanned over twelve months.

NBA

  • I love the sudden silence on big stories.  Luke Walton sexually assaulting a woman years ago was front page news.  Now, there is silence.  You just assume there are constant meetings with money being exchanged to make this go away.  Suddenly, we will read an article about a settlement, lack of evidence, and things will go on in life.
  • The Rockets-Jazz series made it painfully obviously that although Donavan Mitchell IS the first answer to their problem, they need a better sidekick.
  • I admired the fight the Clippers put up in their series with the Warriors.  Just not enough horses, and that last game showed what happens when you get ONE of their big four angry…let alone when multiple guys have good games.
  • If you are OKC, WHAT do you do now?  Paul George surprisingly stayed, and that wasn’t enough for a better seed or a series win (yes, I know he had some injuries).  But, where now?  Your other pieces are weak.  To think that Russell, Durant, and Harden were all on the same team at one time is ridiculous.
  • Steve Kerr is now the seasoned smartass.  Players apparently will still turn up music during his interviews, but he has become funny.  Crazy what a few rings will do for you.
  • The Rockets traveled to the Bay Area BEFORE Game 6 of the Warriors-Clippers series.  Sure, the next series was kind of known, and being there early should have helped.  It didn’t as it turned out though.
  • Happy trails, John Havlicek.  You were one of the greatest ever.  Eight titles, one NCAA title, and most people forget about your EIGHT first or second team All-Defensive team nods.
  • I bet on the Nuggets in Game 7 vs. the Spurs.  Yup.  A good amount of money.  But, the spread was six and I wasn’t being happy about them winning and then get screwed on the spread.  Final score?  90-86.  GREAT move by me.
  • In a three-day period, the Celtics reminded us what they can be and why we have forgotten about them.  Smoked, and then got smoked by the Bucks.  Way to keep us on our toes.  The world was definitely round in Game 2, Kyrie.
  • Game 2 between the Warriors and Rockets reminded us why we are petrified of the Warriors.  One guy gets hot?  OK.  Everyone in the starting lineup show signs of lighting it up?  No chance.  I was actually amazed the Rockets only lost by six.  That could have been a 30-point blowout if not for Harden blindly shooting somehow after his injury.
  • Hey, James.  Remember, Ayra learned a lot of her shit with a blindfold and look how SHE turned out.
  • Even though the Rockets got their least favorite ref, I didn’t see much inconsistency or favoritism.  I was ok with the calls in Game 2.  Odd stat though.  James Harden has fouled out of four games in the last three years.  THREE of those games, that ref (Scott Foster) was doing the game.
  • The Rockets DO need to let the ref stuff GO though.  Complaining after Game 1?  Auditing Game 7 last year?  Come on.  We all know, the league reviews and critiques, and no one wins in a seven-game series JUST because of refs.
  • Hubie Brown announcing a game is like the most heavenly song I have ever heard.

MLB

  • We were worried about them beating the rules and screwing up the kid’s future, but the Jays are doing the right thing.  Bringing up Vlad, Jr. is right and right for us baseball fans too.  Enjoy that kid.  He will be special.
  • I think that Trevor Rosenthal is fighting Rick Ankiel Syndrome a little.
  • I love baseball etiquette in some ways, and think we should let some things go.  Please don’t time guys circling the bases after a HR.  So Hoskins went for 34 seconds.  I didn’t know we were in a huge rush in baseball.
  • Bryce Harper might have been coached and probably still is unlikeable overall, but he did two very smart things this week.  He said after being booed that he would have done the same thing, and…he gave the Philly Phanatic large green sneakers for his birthday.  Way to play the crowd, clown boy.
  • If we had the World Series right now, I think I would just like to watch a batting competition between Yelich and Bellinger.

NHL

  • I don’t know why I didn’t think about or figure out that the Carolina Hurricanes come out pre-game to Rock You Like Hurricane.
  • I just watched the most beautiful power play I have seen this playoff season by the New York Islanders.
  • Why do hockey players and coaches give the best interviews BY FAR in all of sports.  Knowledgeable, respectful, clear, and proper.  You have guys missing two front teeth treating the media more respectful than the other big three sports combined.
  • I live my life by sports and catch MOST things I can.  I didn’t have to stay up too late overall, and admit to going to bed before that Sharks comeback down 3-0 in Game 7.  I went to sleep with no time conflicts during what people are calling the best Game 7 ever.  Great.
  • I had money on the Caps, so I wasn’t happy overall, but find it funny that the Caps MIGHT be thinking about them partying all summer when driving home after the Game 7 loss to the Hurricanes.  No Cup to play with THIS year, guys.
  • If the Avs somehow fall off, I am SOOOO going for the Blue Jackets this year.
  • The Avs dropped their first home game this series vs. the Sharks in a very painful way (tied it up late, and then allowed a goal a minute later to go one down again) at HOME, but they are doing their job.  They stole one game in San Jose, and now they just need to win Game 4 to stay on serve and then steal Game 5 or 7.
  • I just learned about the “continuous play” rule admittedly after the Bruins game.  I know most stuff.  I didn’t know that one.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Omaha Beach is recently scratched from the Derby.  I guess that makes Game Winner odds on favorite now.  Omaha Beach was a fun name.  Him being scratched made me sad.
  • People.  Don’t sit at home.  Go somewhere fun for the Kentucky Derby.  It is worth it.  I am throwing on a bow tie and going to the Big Wonderful Derby party.  We did the Mini-Derby a couple years ago (with miniature ponies) and that was fun too.  Do something and dress up.
  • Baylor (women’s hoops team) was served fast food at the White House.  I don’t get this.  I am confused.  Is Trump trying to be funny with fast food?  Does he think that is all college kids eat and like?  Are the teams requesting fast food?  Is he just dumb?  I need more clarification, media people.
  • The new PGA schedule is really jacking me up.  SO weird that the PGA Championship is a in two weeks.  Fast turnaround, different one (usually is the US Open), and I hope my wife doesn’t make plans.  I already had her block off the entire month of March and first two weeks of April for my sports.  I will compromise.  Maybe just the Sunday.  And Saturday.  And Thursday and Friday evening.  Yeah.

THIS AND THAT (pop culture, Fillerbuster thoughts):

  • My wife just got our tickets to Pizza-Palooza.  We already did the mac and cheese one.  I am trying to hit for the cycle on favorite food festivals.
  • The Jeopardy guy is still going, but had a guy get within $18 of him this week.  It was on the 18th appearance of the champion (guy plays with numbers and that was most likely on purpose).  Anyway, the loser had the highest score EVER for a losing competitor.  $50k plus.  I have watched James play.  That will be the close call for a while.  Trust me.
  • We had a “bring your child to work day” at work, and thankfully my boss let me stay at home and work while the little humans wreaked havoc at our office.
  • If I am an Avs fan, I am pissed that any road trips I have to make are to San Jose and not Vegas.
  • Typically, when you hear about a lottery winner, it is an older person.  A 24-year old man from Wisconsin just won $700 million.  So, dude is now the man, and is only 24.  We are all jealous, whether we admit it or not.  I can’t even imagine how bad I would be with that money if I got it at age 24.
  • Think you are overachieving in life?  You are not.  A 10 year old girl won a national HAND-writing contest.  She has no hands, folks.
  • There is a poop museum in Japan.
  • I am learning from my international clients that they have a lot of week-long holidays.  Something is going on (not the New Year as that was two months ago) that they are ALL out of the office ALL week.
  • I had a conversation with my co-worker about three word Steven Seagal movie titles, and it scared me how many I named in about 15 seconds off the top of my head.  Out For Justics, Marked for Death, Hard To Kill, etc.
  • When I watch Billions, I wonder if it is crazy to think I could be as cool as Axe without the money.  Not sure.  No closure in my thought.
  • Again, if you wonder WHY they say “for sandwiches” at the end of Arby’s commercials, it is because roast beef is viewed as an older person meat, and they want to make sure they are accepted by the youngsters, who don’t judge the word “sandwiches.”
  • Again, Untuckit is a useless brand, because the magic of wearing shirts untucked is because they were made to BE tucked in.
  • I didn’t know that a weighted blanket was a “thing” these days, but it is, and I have learned lots about it in the last week since Amazon stopped by to deliver my wife’s order.
  • New Snarf’s coming to my neighborhood (and free sandwich party to accompany it next week), and now I am effectively surrounded by Snarf’s shops.
  • Biden is in the presidential race I hear, and it made me ponder whether there is a TOP age limit for POTUS.  I guess if he starts losing it, he can’t think any worse than Trump does now.
  • (that is about as political as I will get in this thing ever, of course)
  • Measles is a thing again?
  • I read that Amazon is going to one day shipping, and that makes procrastinators like me VERY happy.
  • I went to a crawfish boil at Monkey Barrell last weekend and learned three things.  Monkey Barrell is a pretty cool place I had never checked out.  The Austin Young Band is VERY good and the lead sounds a little like Kenny Wayne Shepherd in guitar skills.  And crawfish are very large to dig through for just the tasty tail (I don’t do that suck the head crap).
  • In a community email/update, I read that someone asked if others received a porn flyer on their car.  So, A) you didn’t look in the immediate area at OTHER cars? And B) and you had enough free time in life to come home, log on, and ask it to your “network?”
  • At work, our creative folks made a video wall presentation (think about 7 video walls in our headquarters) for a Friday event about the 90’s.  They had to pick the best shows and movies of the decade.  Needless to say, I raised HELL internally when I saw the wall and it didn’t have Seinfeld on it.  That got fixed QUICKLY.
  • Not only did I try a double IPA with the coolest name ever, but it became one of my favorites now in life.  Tricerahops.
  • Gigglin’ Grizzly is still one of my favorite bars in Denver (we took someone there the other night) and it has an adjective/adverb and animal in its name, so it must be cool.
  • Mike is a guy in a Yankees hat behind the bar and is the best bartender in Denver.
  • I wasn’t aware of the band Brit Floyd, but saw them late on TV Saturday, then found out they will be playing Red Rocks in a month, and I might just have to join that little party.
  • I am having a war with my lawnmower before my first cut this year.  The lawnmower is presently still winning this war.
  • (I didn’t know that gas went “stale”)
  • Billions was solid this week, and everyone showed emotion but Axe, although his “emotion” was giving a pizza buddy his dream life after rethinking things.  What a fantastic show.
  • Barry is losing me though.  I need to be clear about what is entertainment and whether it is trying to be realistic or not.  I am presently confused as to what Barry is trying to accomplish.  Too much going on, unless I let go of my critiques and just accept it as outlandish humor and plot twists.
  • Dammit.  I forgot to get that Jimmy John’s Frenchie again this week thus far.  I HAVE to try that thing.
  • So, I am beginning to think that I am a bad person for A) not seeing Avengers Endgame and B) for knowing I will have NO clue what is going on if I do see it.
  • The Billy’s Inn stuffed bacon and cheeseburger is heavenly.
  • Liquid Paradise is a very good IPA by New Belgium.
  • Not only had I never seen the Family Guy where they realize that the Russians changed the ending to Rocky IV, but then the episode AFTER that was new for me too?  That is just crazy for someone who has that show on all the time.
  • Russia is apparently training whales too now, which is exciting.
  • I was excited to read more about the Impossible Whopper and possibly try it until I found out that the impossible nature of the burger was that it wasn’t meat.
  • I don’t know why I always visit the clean, nice McDonald’s every time after my dentist visit in Littleton, but I do.
  • I am glad I didn’t make Woodstock 50 plans.  Sounds like it is cancelled.  All new stuff, and no old school bands, so I think my 25th anniversary one will always rule.  We had the perfect mix of Woodstock original bands and new stuff.  You could listen to Joe Cocker and then Green Day.  NIN and then Allman Brothers.
  • Denver made sure we got in a April 30th snow so you people out east can think we have snowy weather all the time.
  • Did you know that this is the first year that hydro and wind power actually will exceed coal power?
  • I didn’t realize that John Singleton died, but Boyz In The Hood will always be one of the great flicks ever.
  • How did John Legend end up with such a bad team on The Voice?
  • I didn’t realize my wife had a little food box scam going, and it is SMART.  You should do this too.  She just rotates between all ten companies, and when she cancels an order for the next one, they offer to give it to her for cheap.
  • Sweet Cow ice cream on 32nd and Lowell has become a recent addiction.  Even when it snows.
  • Kind of embarrassed I don’t have plans to go to an Avs or Nuggets game yet.  Guess they better make the next round too.
  • Well, I lost the LAST person this week at work who I could talk to absolutely unfiltered.  Sad.  I will miss you, Rob, VERY much.  Four Winds will miss your unknown brilliance (sadly) also.  So, now he is going to go do his thing at one of the largest companies in the world (who did recognize his brilliance), and one of our clients…lol.  You were my sounding board, bro. If Rob was a 1.0 filter, meaning pure, then I am left with two .80 filters.  That is it.

GAME OF THRONES

I didn’t write down notes while watching it.  And you can read reviews and recaps anywhere.  So, here are my totally random thoughts, some with spoilers:

  • Watching it at the Oriental on the big screen with a bunch of people was fun as hell.
  • I didn’t know that Chris Stapleton was one of the White Walkers.  They always sneak those cameos in so low key.
  • I still don’t understand how you hang onto a dragon flying by grabbing two spikes on its back.  I especially don’t understand how you hang on to those spikes when two dragons are flying AND fighting.
  • That storm sure ruined some good lighting in the fight scenes initially.
  • When you have the castle behind you, not sure why you send the Dothraki out in the darkness.  I know you don’t have floodlights back in the day, but maybe some fire pits or something?
  • I admit to getting TOTALLY sucked in, even with the clues on the second watching, of Ayra not factoring in for the last scene.  Epic.
  • I temporarily forgot about Ayra and thought Bran was going to stand up and do some crazy shit.  Glad it didn’t go down like that.
  • I laughed out loud when Sansa said Tyrion was the best of her men, and he said “terrifying thought.”
  • So, if MVP’s were given out, Dany and Jon didn’t do much except for fly around on their dragons.
  • I know it is a show, but didn’t the people in the show worry about the dead IN THE CRYPTS rising up at some point?  Not the best hiding place.
  • People complain about them cramming the whole battle into one episode, but I had no problem with it.  They did a good setup, and let’s not forget that the White Walkers are a SIDE story.  The real story is getting past this and getting back to WHO wins the Game of Thrones.
  • Couldn’t they steal some of Cersei’s green explosive shit for these dead people?
  • Jamie couldn’t bring along the dragon killing spear thing?
  • Where the hell did Ayra come from?  I know she is a small little assassin, but wasn’t the Night King swamped on both sides by dead people.  Well, I guess dead people aren’t really looking for an ambush though.
  • How the HELL did Sam keep living throughout that episode?  And why didn’t someone leave him in the crypt and say “someone has to tell this story someday.”  Him and Tyrion could tag team it.
  • BUT, all fun aside, here is my synopsis.  For all of the hype of the most hyped episode EVER, they freaking delivered.  Sure, there are always some inconsistencies in the GOT shows, but overall, they DID IT.  I was happy.  I was satisfied.  Good job.  Something built up that much usually is a letdown.  NOT in this case.
  • And some other notes.  They are brilliant and pull some crazy earlier stuff you don’t even catch initially, and they do it smoothly.
  • You remember about the different eyes in a conversation between Melisandre and Ayra?  I forgot they even talked, let alone have the exact same conversation.
  • Remember when Ayra says “not today?”  That line comes from the same question her initial sword teacher asked her in training.  Totally didn’t realize that.  Nice pull, GOT…AND important.
  • Using the Littlefinger-Bran-etc. knife from seasons past to do the deed?  Wow.  Nice touch.
  • Ayra had that whole crazy side plot where she “had no name.”  Well, Ayra, you got a name NOW.
  • Bottom line. A for effort and those who weren’t happy are just wrong.

TWEET OF THE WEEK:

Too many GOT ones to go through…moving on.

THE BEST WORKOUT SONG EVER FOR THIS WEEK:

New recruits as I did a refresh. Along with Ayra, the girl with no name, doing HER thing, this song rocketed up my workout song rankings. It was close between #1 and #2, but My Name takes it. Take a listen. Thanks to my brother for sending over, and now I am addicted and almost running into walls during workouts. For #2, make it through the initial screams, and you get a damn good chorus.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

“There is only one god, and His name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: ‘not today’,” master sword-fighter Syrio Forel had said to Arya during her training many season ago.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Reconfiguing these numbers and this section…

THIS WEEK’S LIST:

Off the top of my head, the characters I wish to NOT lose in order of preference in GOT…

Ghost (if still alive after the battle)
Tyrion (barely edges out Ayra)
Ayra (only losing to my favorite little person and a wolf-not bad)
Sam (when he becomes a smartass, it kills me)
The Hound (well, he needs to destroy The Mountain of course)
Tormund (not alone here)
Jon Snow (still a fan)
Jamie (he has become pretty noble, plus need him to face Cersei)
Sansa (she is such a badass these days)
Jorah (oh yeah, he is dead)
Dany (she has become a bitch a little except for that Jorah crying)
Bran, Bronn, Gendry, and everyone else on the cast…
Cersei (last on whatever list I make, but just did this in 4 minutes)

THE RIDDLE:

This hasn’t developed very much, and apparently no one wants free money. So, this is a very hard one. $20 to whoever can guess the question I missed on camera in the final 4 people of 700 to make the ESPN Dream Job set? After missing the question, although I wasn’t out of it, I lost my cool and security led me out. No one from Denver made it if you care. I should have been the Golden Child. I just didn’t want the knife enough.

CLOSING:

The theme? Easy one this week. Ayra kicking ass in GOT. A girl had no name but now has one. The new #1 workout song by a hair over Bow Down. My Name came in from two different angles and won this one easily.

That’s it for today.  Hope you enjoyed or are at least more informed.  Remember two things.  First, feed yourself, feed your family, but always, always remember to…feed the wolf.  Second,  if you can’t spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.  Will I blog again?  That is a CLOWN question, bro.

PICS:

Spontaneous house party. My wife and her friends.
The same girls posing.
Friends even weeded my yard at the house party.
Cute dog award goes to Meatball!
How I had never been down this alley in Denver, I will never know.
Big screen, punks…
