Hollie Webb a rising hockey star in 2016

During the build-up to the Hockey World Cup League Finals, Danny Kerry, Head Coach of the England Women’s team, has gone on record singing the praises of the player Hollie Webb.

Danny Kerry is of the opinion that the League Finals will prove an ideal opportunity for Hollie, a Belpher team regular who is just twenty-five years of age, to showcase her considerable talents on a wider stage.

Key Player

Hollie was a key player in the team that achieved a bronze medal at their last outing, going on to win silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow back in 2014 and gold at this year’s EuroHockey Championships, where Britain beat the Netherlands in a tense final that culminated in a edgy penalty shoot-out. She also played a significant role in Surbiton’s National League Team victory.

Love of Sport

Hollie started her hockey career at Belpher Hockey Club in Derby, enthusiastically taking part in their weekend junior sessions, which she discovered via an advert at her primary school. Hockey is currently growing in popularity in both primary and secondary schools right across the UK. This is demonstrated by an increasing demand for high-quality hockey sticks and other essential hockey paraphernalia.

Quick Progression

Hollie fell in love with hockey practically at the moment that she first picked up her first ever hockey sticks, and has built on this affinity over the following years, steadily building a rock-solid reputation as a sportswoman along the way. She has progressed through the ranks at an impressive rate and made her debut as a national player when England went up against South Africa in 2013, just before she graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in economics. Although hockey is her first love, Hollie is has also been involved with a number of other sports, including netball. She also gives up some of her free time to coach what are hopefully up-and-coming hockey stars of the future in her local area.

Integral Cog

Danny Kelly has made it clear that Hollie is an integral cog in the England women’s team, commenting that it was a no-brainer to add her to the Hockey World Cup League team list. He observed that he could wax lyrically about every member of the squad, but singled out Hollie for praise, saying that she was the sort of player who often falls under the radar due to her less flashy style.
