What’s gone wrong with Indian wrestling? Again!

It’s all gone horribly wrong,  hasn’t it?

Just when you thought that Indian Wrestling had left all the controversy and heartburn of the Sushil Kumar – Narsingh Yadav selection imbroglio behind,  this had to happen.

Kumar’s bete-noire tests positive for a banned substance.

He will not be going to Rio. Definitely not.

And Sushil won’t be either. The man hasn’t fought in almost two years.

What an outcome! Who could have foreseen it?

Yadav has raised the bogeyman of a sinister conspiracy against him. It’s probably Kumar’s camp getting back at him.

That,  however,  seems a little farfetched.

Kumar,  as indicated above,  gains nothing from his ouster.

He had accepted the Delhi High Court’s decision with rare grace in an Indian sportsperson.

And while it does seem farfetched that Yadav could be so careless as to get caught now so close to the Games,  athletes have been known to be cocksure about their infallibility.

Nod Sharapova,  nod Armstrong.

The days ahead will throw more light on yet another sad chapter in Indian sport.

Till then,  we can only hope that our sportspersons are clean and ever vigilant against the dangers of doping.

We need medals from our athletes,  yes,  but not tarnished ones that leave us only with bitter memories.

All is certainly not fair in sport.
