There is no better time than now, to reminisce and remind us of some of our favorite games that we’ve witnessed from the beautiful game. If you have accessed the archives of your favorite team already, here is some inspiration for your next old match to watch (in no particular order):
Liverpool vs. AC Milan – 2005 Champions League Final
Setting the stage: Milan was a powerhouse for years leading up to this match, while Liverpool’s last final appearance was back in 1985. Let’s just say this match was regarded as one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League Final history.
Brazil vs. Germany – 2014 WC Semifinal
Setting the stage: Two tournament favorites entering the penultimate match, both determined to make it to the final. Brazil, the hosts, wanted to dominate the beautiful game on the world’s stage once more. In the other corner, Germany was looking to spoil the party and win their fourth World Cup. When watching, be prepared for shock and awe.
Reading vs. Arsenal – 2012 English League Cup
Setting the stage: This is not a David vs. Goliath moment, but it is a game with a ton of end to end action. If you like goals, you will not be bored with this one. Make sure you don’t get and leave, or you might miss one of the 12 goals in this match.
City vs. QPR – 2012 Barclays Premier League
Setting the stage: After the Man. City overhaul, this was their chance to etch their name in history. They left it to the last day of the season to find out if they would win their first Premier League trophy. It turned out to be one of the most exciting endings to a season in premier league history.
Chelsea vs. Liverpool – 2009 UCL Quarterfinal 2nd Leg
Setting the stage: One of the greatest Champions League matchups between English sides. Chelsea took the first leg at Anfield 3-1, but Liverpool wasn’t going to back down when they went to Stamford Bridge. If you want to watch a game with intensity and chances, this is for you.
Turkey vs. Germany – 2008 Euro Semifinal
Setting the stage: Turkey clawed its way through this tournament and set themselves up for a great chance to reach the final. In turn, Germany was looking to become a dominant force in the soccer world after coming up short in the past couple of international tournaments. It would be a defining moment for Germany and their teams to come.
USA vs. Japan – 2015 Women’s World Cup Final
Setting the stage: In a rematch of that 2011 final, the U.S. women were determined to retake their crown and solidify themselves as the #1 team in the world again. It was also no fluke Japan found themselves in the same position after their cinderella run in 2011. The audience knew this would be a good match, but nobody expected the outcome of this one.
