Softball Training Building Blocks For All Ages

As a parent of a softball player, sifting through a seemingly endless sea of information on the best way for your player to train and practice can be overwhelming. We are here to help. Diamond Kinetics makes things easy by breaking down your player’s Training by Age group, sport, and how to use the SwingTracker and PitchTracker in our training building blocks: Establish Benchmarks, Set Your Goals, and Train, Analyze, Improve, Repeat.

The Diamond Kinetics SwingTracker can help hitters of all age groups and skill levels improve; whether a hitter is building their foundation, growing their game, or sharpening their tools at the plate.

Build Your Foundation (Ages 8-11)

In this age group, hitters will want to focus on skills that will build a foundation for future success at the plate. It is key for players at this level to get in a high volume of reps. These reps should focus on developing barrel speed and a consistent contact point out in front of the plate. LEARN MORE >>

Grow Your Game (Ages 12-14)

At this level, the focus is on a combination of reps and quality output concentration. It’s time for hitters to build their “swing engine”, swinging fast while refining mechanics as the quality of opposing Pitchers improves. The hitter at this level should try to get their barrel to top speed as quickly as possible. LEARN MORE >>

Sharpen Your Tools (Ages 15+)

HItters at this level can focus on the quality of each and every swing in training. Quantity of swings is still important for development, but each swing needs to have a clear intent to maximize training time. Hitters at this level should be fine-tuning the swing and preparing to face quality live pitching LEARN MORE >>

The Diamond Kinetics PitchTracker is a useful training tool for pitchers of all ages and skill levels; whether a pitcher is building their foundation, growing their game, or sharpening their skills in the circle.

Build Your Foundation (Ages 8-11)

Players who can repeat delivery, maintain a consistent windmill motion, and maintain a consistent release point give themselves the best chance of consistently competing in the Strike Zone. Pitchers ages 8-11 should focus on controlling their Fastball before moving onto secondary pitches. While it’s certainly good to get an understanding of how hard a young pitcher throws, what is most important for young pitchers is to throw strikes consistently (Strike %). Throwing strikes leads to success in this age group (and beyond). LEARN MORE >>

Grow Your Game (Ages 12-14)

As pitchers at this level work to maintain command of their Fastball, they should also start to take accuracy into account. The ability to have complete command and control over their Fastball is key. In turn, Pitchers in the 12-14 age group should aim to develop at least one (preferably two or more) secondary pitches that will best complement their Fastball.  LEARN MORE >>

Sharpen Your Tools (Ages 15+)

Pitchers 15-and-older can be considered advanced pitchers who should be regularly working on their craft. They should have a solid command of three or more pitches (for relievers, two or more) that can be thrown for a strike in any count. Advanced pitchers should have repeatable mechanics and consistent arm slots. Fine-tuning the kinematic sequence and mechanics are the way to drive incremental but important improvements. LEARN MORE >>
