Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has admitted that he is optimistic that Eden Hazard will move to The Bernabeu this summer.

The Belgium international has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid over the past three or four seasons but a deal has failed materialise.

However, Hazard is set to enter the final year of his current deal at the west London side and Chelsea FC have been unable to tie the Belgian forward down to a contract extension.

Real Madrid are looking to overhaul their squad after the Spanish side finished in third place and 19 points behind champions FC Barcelona.

Reports in the British media suggest that the Champions League’s most decorated team would be willing to spend €100m (£88.2m) on the Chelsea FC number 10.

And Perez has now confirmed in an interview with Spanish media that the La Liga giants want to sign Hazard this summer.

“I am very interested in him coming to Real Madrid and I am very hopeful that he will come this year. He is one of the best in the world,” Perez to Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

The Real Madrid president went on to add that he hopes to complete a deal for Hazard after Wednesday night’s Europa League final.

“How are we going to talk with a club that is about to play a final?” Perez added. “We tried to get him last season but it was not possible.

“We have been trying to make Hazard a Real Madrid player for many years but we still have not achieved it.”

Chelsea FC finished in third place in the Premier League in Maurizio Sarri’s first season in charge.

Hazard netted 16 league goals to help Chelsea FC secure a return to the Champions League.

The Blues will take on Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku on Wednesday night.
