Mark Lawrenson predicts outcome of Man United v Chelsea FC

Mark Lawrenson is tipping Manchester United and Chelsea FC to play out a score draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Maurizio Sarri’s started the Premier League weekend in fourth place despite being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw with Burnley at Stamford Bridge last Monday.

However, Arsenal lost 3-1 to Wolves at Molineux and Man United suffered a 2-0 loss to Manchester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night as both clubs missed their chance to reel in Chelsea FC.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be looking to restore some pride at Old Trafford following seventh loss in their last nine games in all competitions in the derby mid-week.

Manchester United will be hoping to avoid losing back-to-back Premier League Fixtures at Old Trafford for the first time since 2014 and for just the fifth time in their history.

Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is tipping Manchester United and Chelsea FC to settle for a point each in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

“Manchester United are all over the place at the moment, with seven defeats in their past nine matches in what is their worst run of results since 1988-89,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“Seeing them line up with five at the back at home against City on Wednesday was almost an admission that they could not afford to lose that game, but they really need to win this one to keep alive their hopes of making the top four.

“Yes, we saw a reaction against City after their awful performance against Everton, but if you look through United’s team they have got some very ordinary players.

“Chelsea arguably need all three points too, especially after they were held by Burnley on Monday. Their frustration in that game was obvious, and I think they might find this match is little bit more open.”

Lawrenson added: “I think Tottenham will finish third but who takes fourth spot might not be settled until the final week of the season.

“I am backing Chelsea to take it. Arsenal are not good enough away from home, and United are not good enough full-stop.”

Quite remarkably, Manchester United have failed to score in their last three Premier League fixtures to raise questions about their form in front of goal under Solskjaer.

Manchester United are looking to finish in the Premier League’s top four for just the third time since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as manager back in 2013.
