Michael Owen reacts to Liverpool FC’s 1-1 draw with Leicester

Michael Owen has insisted that Liverpool FC’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City will end up being a positive result despite their failure to move seven points clear at the top of the table.

The Merseyside outfit headed into the game fresh from having seen Manchester City lose to Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

However, the Reds were unable to claim the three points as they were forced to settle for a draw, which left them five points clear at the top of the table.

Sadio Mane had put Liverpool FC ahead in the third minute, but Harry Maguire equalised for the visitors at Anfield just before half-time.

The result was a frustrating one for Liverpool FC given that they could have further extended their lead at the top of the table.

However, former Liverpool FC star Owen feels that the results of the week are still largely positive for the Merseyside outfit.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Owen said: “I always try and look at the positives.

“From this midweek set of fixtures, if you’d had said that Manchester City were going to lose and Liverpool were going to draw, everyone around here would have snapped your hand off.

“So you’ve got to look at it as a positive midweek set of a results. They’ve gone an extra point clear in the league and I think that’s what they’ll be focusing on.”

The ex-England striker added: “There was a little bit of anxiousness and a little bit of nervousness around and Jurgen Klopp won’t want that to feed into the team, because there is still a long way to go.”

Liverpool FC – who are looking to win their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp – will look to make amends and return to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on West Ham United at the London Stadium on Monday night next week.
