Arsenal are going to make mistakes as Unai Emery attempts to get his Gunners squad out of their comfort zone, according to Martin Keown.
The Gunners have made a reasonably bright start to life under their new manager Emery despite losing their opening two Premier League games against Manchester City and Chelsea FC.
Arsenal went on a seven-game winning streak before the Gunners were held to three consecutive draws with Crystal Palace, Liverpool FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of the international break.
The north London side have made some notable improvements with the Spanish head coach in charge, but some of the usual suspects have costs Arsenal with reckless mistakes.
Granit Xhaka’s error led to Wolves’ goal in the 12th minute at The Emirates last weekend before Henrikh Mkhitaryan managed to equalise to preserve Arsenal’s unbeaten record.
Asked during his weekly column with the Daily Mail whether “the same old mistakes” are proving to be Arsenal’s undoing this term, the club legend replied:
“Unai Emery knows exactly what the problem is. He is wringing out every ounce of desire and energy on the touchline to get Arsenal to boiling point.
“These players have trained habits and behaviour from working so long with one manager, Arsene Wenger. Every now and again they slip back into that comfort zone.
“I have been impressed by Granit Xhaka’s improvement this season but that is what happened when his mistakes led to Wolves’ goal on Sunday.
“Arsenal were at boiling point against Liverpool. The challenge for Emery is to keep them there for games against sides like Wolves.”
Arsenal will return to Premier League action with a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday 25 November as Emery’s side looked to end a three-game run without a top-flight victory.
The Gunners are looking to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in three seasons and are three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the league standings.
