Danny Welbeck has taken to Instagram to tell Arsenal supporters that he is back at home following an ankle operation.
The England international suffered a serious ankle injury during Arsenal’s goalless draw with Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League at The Emirates last week.
Welbeck underwent surgery on Friday to help resolve the issue but the Gunners have since confirmed that the 27-year-old will require a second operation.
Arsenal haven’t provided a timeline for Welbeck’s return to first-team action, having lost the experienced striker to another long-term injury.
Welbeck has missed a staggering 83 games due to fitness problems since the England striker moved to Arsenal in a £16m deal from Manchester United in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The former Sunderland forward is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2018-19 Premier League season unless the north London side opt to offer the England man a new deal.
Welbeck took to social media website Instagram to provide concerned Arsenal supporters with an update on his injury on Tuesday afternoon after he returned home from his operation.
The Arsenal striker posted the above photo and wrote on the photo-sharing app: “Back home… Thanks for all the love and support. No doubt I will be back stronger than ever before. Recovery grind starts now ”
Welbeck has spent 587 days on the sidelines due to injury since his move to Arsenal from Manchester United four and a half seasons ago.
The experienced Premier League striker has scored 32 times in 126 games in all competitions for the Gunners.
Welbeck had netted 29 goals in 142 outings for Manchester United during his six seasons in the first team at Old Trafford.
