Paul Merson states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Everton

Paul Merson believes Chelsea FC will have too much for Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues have made an impressive start to Maurizio Sarri’s reign despite concerns about his delayed appointment in the summer after Antonio Conte parted company with the club.

However, Sarri has managed to build some impressive momentum at the west London side to put together a title challenge despite Chelsea FC finishing in fifth place last term.

Chelsea FC have won eight of their 11 Premier League Games so far, only dropping points in stalemates with West Ham, Liverpool FC and Manchester United.

The Blues were 1-0 winners against BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night in Belarus, with Olivier Giroud netting a second-half winner.

Everton are in ninth place after winning three of their last four Premier League games but did lose 2-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Former Arsenal playmaker Merson believes Chelsea FC will secure three points against Marco Silva’s side at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

“Chelsea put out a strong team at BATE Borisov, perhaps it was too strong,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“I understand Eden Hazard needs the minutes but surely you’d rather him have them against Everton rather than travelling all the way to Belarus. Chelsea have a decent squad and will be there or thereabouts this season, but they still need a proper goalscorer.”

Merson added: “You only need to look at Alvaro Morata’s late chance against Palace. Yes, the game was won, but Ian Wright, Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Thierry Henry, Harry Kane and the like would have sealed their hat-trick instead of trying to chip the goalkeeper, got the ball signed by everyone and then gone home!

“Everton have done well, especially with last week’s big result against Brighton, but Stamford Bridge will be too big a test for the Toffees.”

Chelsea FC have won 25 of their 52 meetings in the Premier League to edge Everton in the head-to-head.

The Blues haven’t lost to Everton in their last 23 games at Stamford Bridge after an impressive run of 13 wins and 10 draws.

England international Ross Barkley could line up against his former club following his £15m move to Stamford Bridge from Everton in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has scored three goals and has made three assists in 10 games in the Premier League this season.

Barkley has been Chelsea FC’s best player in recent weeks during Eden Hazard’s brief spell on the sidelines.
