Gary Neville: What I really think about Liverpool FC signing Alisson Becker

Gary Neville is tipping Alisson Becker to be a big hit at Liverpool FC.

The Reds signed the Brazil number one in a £67m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window.

Alisson was initially the most expensive goalkeeper in the world before Chelsea FC spent £71m on Athletic Bilbao star Kepa.

The 25-year-old kept a clean sheet on his debut in Liverpool FC’s 4-0 win against West Ham United at Anfield.

Liverpool FC’s new goalkeeper produced a big performance in the Reds’s 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Former Manchester United defender Neville is intrigued to watch how Alisson develops in the Liverpool FC team over the course of the season.

“At the end of last season when Jurgen Klopp said he was going to keep faith with the two goalkeepers he had, I thought it was strange,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“I didn’t see how that could happen if Liverpool were going to genuinely challenge for the title.

“I watched Alisson and he looked good with his feet, though a few things came off him from parrying.

“He passed his first test against Crystal Palace and I’m not necessarily looking forward to watching him, but I chose him in terms of answering the questions that need to be answered in a new league.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Reds signed Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri in the 2018 summer transfer window.
