Chelsea FC close to signing 25-year-old Brazilian after missing out on Golovin – report

Chelsea FC are set to focus on a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Bernard after missing out on Russia international Aleksandr Golovin, according to a report.

Brazilian publication Globo Esporte, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Chelsea FC are set to miss out on the signing of Golovin as the Russia star edges closer to a move to AS Monaco.

The same article states that the Blues will look to sign Bernard in a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.

According to the same story, Chelsea FC will face stiff competition to sign the Brazilian playmaker, who has been inundated with offers since becoming a free agent.

Chelsea FC have endured a frustrating transfer window so far largely due to the uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte’s future at the west London outfit.

Th Italian head coach was sacked earlier this month and ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri was named as his successor.

Chelsea FC signed Italy international Jorginho in a £57m deal from Napoli earlier this month after the Blues managed to see off competition from Manchester City.

The west London side have also signed veteran England goalkeeper Rob Green.
