Jamie Redknapp has warned Unai Emery that some members of the Arsenal squad need some “home truths” ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Gunners have appointed the Spanish head coach as Arsene Wenger’s replacement after Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table.

The north London side continued their regression under the Frenchman to culminate in his decision to stand down as manager at The Emirates.

Emery has wasted no time leaving his mark on the Arsenal team after the former Sevilla manager brought in three new additions.

Arsenal started their summer transfer activity with a swoop to Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus.

The Gunners have brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal to provide Petr Cech and David Ospina with competition for a starting spot.

Borussia Dortmund agreed to sell Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos to Arsenal to allow Emery to bolster his defence.

However, former Spurs midfielder Redknapp believes Emery needs to address some problems within the Arsenal squad, too.

“Arsenal have got a lot to do,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “What Unai Emery will do is galvanise the squad. They’ve struggled for a long while, they’ve had no impetus and they’ve been sleepwalking for a while.

“They need some new energy in the team and a new manager will do that, he will get them going in pre-season. One or two of the squad need some home truths because it’s been too easy to play for Arsenal. This year, I feel he will get them going.”

Arsenal lost 3-0 to Premier League champions Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley last season to miss out on silverware.
