Frank Lampard believes Mo Salah will be in the Ballon d’Or discussions alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo if the Egypt forward fires Liverpool FC to the Champions League title this season.
The African forward scored in Liverpool FC’s 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion last weekend to take his tally to 31 goals in 33 games in the Premier League in the current campaign.
Salah scooped the PFA player of the year ahead of Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne following an incredible first season at Liverpool FC following a £39m move from AS Roma last summer.
The Egypt international has netted nine goals in 12 games in the Champions League to help the Merseyisde outfit reach the semi-final stage for the first time since 2008.
Salah has drawn comparisons to Messi over the past season due to his low stature and
bustling style of play.
Former Chelsea FC star Lampard believes Salah needs to fire Liverpool FC to the Champions League crown to be seriously considered in the race to win the Ballon d’OR.
‘After being named PFA Player of the Year, he can now put himself in the bracket for the Ballon d’Or too,” Lampard told Evening Standard.
“It will be hard for him to break the group that is Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It will take a lot to do that.
“But if he takes Liverpool to the Champions League title, that could well do it.”
Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of Manchester United in the race to finish behind newly crowned champions Manchester City.
