Frank Lampard has lavished praise on Chelsea FC duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Alvaro Morata after the pair combined for the striker’s goal in a 2-0 win over Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final.
The Blues took on Southampton at Wembley just a week after coming from 2-0 down to rescue a 3-2 victory at St Mary’s courtesy of goals from January signing Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard.
The France striker retained his starting spot for the FA Cup semi-final and Giroud justified his inclusion with a brilliant solo goal to break the deadlock against the Saints on Sunday.
Morata came off the bench in the second half and the Spain international booked their place in the FA Cup final with a clinical goal after Azpilicueta’s assist for his fellow Spain international.
The pair have combined for eight goals in all competitions this season since Morata’s £65m move to Chelsea FC from Champions League holders Real Madrid in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Former Chelsea FC star Lampard lavished praise on Azpilicueta and Morata for their outstanding combination play in the Spanish striker’s first season at the west London club.
“These two [Morata and Azpilicueta] have a great link, we know that,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“Seven assists to him this season. Morata gets his goal and that will help him in the run-in for the rest of the season.”
Chelsea FC won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season in Conte’s first season in charge.
