Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool FC are in a strong position to beat Manchester City in their Champions League quarter-final.
The Reds will welcome the Premier League leaders to Anfield in the first leg of their last-eight clash on Wednesday night.
The Merseyside outfit booked their place in the quarter-finals following a 5-0 aggregate win over 2004 champions FC Porto in the previous round.
Manchester City reached the last eight thanks to a 4-2 aggregate win against Swiss side Basel as the Citizens look to win the competition for the first time.
The Citizens are 18 points ahead of Liverpool FC in the Premier League table but the Reds are the only top flight team to beat Pep Guardiola’s men this term.
Liverpool FC were thrilling 4-3 winners against Manchester City back in February to make amends for a 5-0 loss at The Etihad back in September.
Klopp is confident his Liverpool FC side can match Manchester City if the Reds are consistent over the two legs.
“Did we think before the first game we would lose 5-0? No,” Klopp told his post-match media conference at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
“Did we think before the second we would win 4-3? No. But do we know we have a chance? Yes.
“Actually that was clear before, but they are the favourites. At specific moments I think we are on a similar level but they have been much more consistent and that’s why they are about 20 [points] higher in the league.
“We see our chance, but we know it will be unbelievably difficult. But if I would have had the choice to watch a Champions League game on Wednesday, I would watch this one. It is about tactics but there will be fire in the game, so that’s cool. And it’s at Anfield, so the atmosphere will be good.”
Liverpool FC are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2005.
The Reds lost 3-1 to Sevilla in the Europa League final in Basel in 2015 under Klopp.
Liverpool FC were 2-1 winners against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last weekend.
