Robbie Savage states his prediction for Liverpool FC v Man City in Champions League

Robbie Savage believes both Liverpool FC and Manchester City will still have a shot at reaching the Champions League semi-finals after the first leg at Anfield next month.

The Reds will welcome the Premier League leaders to Anfield in the opening leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Liverpool FC were 5-0 winners against Portuguese side FC Porto in the Champions League round of 16, thanks in part to Sadio Mane’s hat-trick.

The Merseyside outfit are looking to win the competition for the sixth time, but the Reds haven’t lifted the European Cup since 2005.

Manchester City secured their progress to the quarter-finals courtesy of 4-2 win against Basel in the Champions League last 16.

The Citizens are looking to win the Champions League for the first time in their history, although manager Pep Guardiola is a three-time winner.

Manchester City were 5-0 winners against Liverpool FC in their Premier League meeting at The Etihad back in September.

Jurgen Klopp’s men got their revenge earlier this year in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester City to end their unbeaten top-flight run.

Former Leicester midfielder Savage believes the first leg at Anfield won’t deliver a decisive result in the quarter-final tie.

“Any score at Anfield, even if Liverpool FC or Man City are losing 3-1, the game will still be in the balance going to The Etihad,” Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Both teams will score goals. They play with flair and pace. The game will be open whatever the score is.”

Liverpool FC won the Champions League in 2005 thanks to a penalty shootout victory over AC Milan in Istanbul.

The Reds lost 2-1 to the Italian side in the Champions League final in Athens in 2007.
