Steven Gerrard sends Liverpool FC warning to Champions League rivals after 5-0 win

Steven Gerrard believes Europe’s big clubs will be hoping to avoid Liverpool FC in the last eight after the Reds moved to the brink of the Champions League quarter-finals thanks to a 5-0 win at Porto on Wednesday night.

The Merseyside outfit made the trip to Portugal with an impressive record against Porto after two victories and two draws in four previous meetings in Uefa competitions.

Liverpool FC made the breakthrough in the first leg of their last 16 clash through Sadio Mane after the Senegal international’s shot squirmed under Porto goalkeeper Jose Sa.

The Reds doubled their advantage before half-time when Mohamed Salah showed great composure to become the 13th Liverpool FC player to score 30 goals in a season.

Mane and Roberto Firmino helped Liverpool FC to tear apart the Porto defence on the break in the second half before the Senegal forward completed his hat-trick in the final minutes of the Champions League clash.

Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard believes the rest of Europe will have noticed the Merseyside outfit’s outstanding performance at Porto.

“It was terrific. They cut out the mistakes,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“Defensively they were very solid. Van Dijk – another strong performance. The teams that go on to qualify won’t want to play against Liverpool because they are a dangerous team.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League title since 2005 when Gerrard captained the Reds to European glory.

The Merseyside outfit lost 2-1 to AC Milan in the 2007 final in Athens.
