Virgil van Dijk has insisted that he and his Liverpool FC team-mates are fully focused on their showdown with FC Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Reds head into the game on the back of their impressive 2-0 victory over Southampton in the Premier League at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.
Van Dijk played the full 90 minutes against his former club as he helped Jurgen Klopp’s men return to winning ways in the Premier League and move to within just two points of second-placed Manchester United.
Liverpool FC will now prepare for their first European game of 2018 as they get ready to travel to Portugal in the first leg of their last 16 clash.
And Van Dijk has admitted his delight at playing his part in helping Liverpool FC return to winning ways on Sunday as the Reds now look forward to their European showdown.
Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website after the game, Van Dijk said: “It was a bit strange to come back here and do everything the other way round, coming into the away dressing room. But I enjoyed it; we kept a clean sheet and scored good goals. We should have scored more. I’m just happy to get a win.
“It’s always difficult to come here – I know how difficult Southampton can make it. I had a good day. Now we’re fully focused on the Champions League.”
Klopp is aiming to guide Liverpool FC to another top four finish this season after the Reds ended up in fourth place in the German’s first full campaign in charge last term.
Liverpool FC are yet to win their first trophy since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in October 2015.
