Mark Lawrenson has ruled out Liverpool FC exacting revenge on Tottenham Hotspur when the top-four contenders clash at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds lost 4-1 to Spurs at Wembley back in September after Mauricio Pochettino’s side exposed Liverpool FC’s disorganised defence.
Indeed, Croatia international Dejan Lovren was replaced after 32 minutes following three goals for the home side to leave the Reds facing a humiliating defeat.
Liverpool FC bounced back from a two-game losing run with a 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday night to move to within three points of second-placed Manchester United.
The Lilywhites were 2-0 winners against Jose Mourinho’s men at Wembley on Wednesday night thanks in part to Christian Eriksen’s 11-second opener at the home of English football.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing the Reds and Tottenham to share the spoils at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.
“Liverpool’s win at Huddersfield on Tuesday was a result the Reds needed in every way – a clean sheet and no mistakes at the back, and they created enough chances to win easily,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Dejan Lovren did not have a very good day when these two sides met at Wembley earlier in the season, and Tottenham ran out 4-1 winners.
“So Liverpool owe them one, but I don’t see them getting their own back on Sunday.
“Spurs showed against Manchester United that they are in good shape at the moment, and they have not lost since their defeat by Manchester City in December. I see that run continuing.
“I am a fan of Tottenham’s new signing Lucas Moura too. The Brazilian is very quick and gives them something they have not otherwise got down the right.”
Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and two points ahead of Tottenham.
The Reds are looking to secure a top-four finish in successive seasons after Klopp’s men ended up in fourth place last term.
Tottenham have finished ahead of Liverpool FC in the last two Premier League campaigns.
