Newcastle United want to sign Liverpool FC star on loan – report

Newcastle United have made an enquiry to Liverpool FC about the possibility of signing Daniel Sturridge on loan until the end of the season, according to reports in the British media.

Sky Sports is reporting that the Magpies have contacted Liverpool FC about a possible deal to sign the England striker.

Sturridge is likely to be keen to secure regular football between now and the end of the season as he looks to stake his claim for a spot in the England squad for the World Cup in Russia.

The same report says that Newcastle United’s number one target remains Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen.

However, the Magpies are believed to be exploring other options, and Sturridge is thought to be one possible alternative.

Sturridge has found his playing time under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool FC this season to be severely restricted.

The 28-year-old has only started five Premier League games so far for the Reds this season.

He has scored four goals in all competitions and will be hoping to play a part when the Reds take on Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Newcastle United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Chelsea after a 3-0 fourth-round defeat on Sunday.
