Antonio Conte replies when asked if Chelsea are signing quality Italy star in January

Antonio Conte has poured cold water on reports that Chelsea could be set to make a move to sign Giorgio Chiellini from Juventus in the January transfer window.

There have been some reports in recent weeks suggesting that the Blues could turn to the experienced Juventus defender this month as Conte looks to bolster his squad in west London.

Chelsea are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks as Conte considers adding some more depth to his Blues squad.

The 33-year-old has been touted as a possible target for the Blues as they look to try and get themselves back in the race for the Premier League title and somehow close the gap to Manchester City.

Conte knows Chiellini well, both from his time as Juventus manager and Italy boss.

However, the Chelsea manager has appeared to rule out the possibility of Chelsea signing Chiellini this month.

Asked if Chelsea want to sign Chiellini, Conte told a news conference on Tuesday: “No, no – I must be honest.

“Giorgio is a fantastic player but I think he wants to finish his career at Juventus and I think it’s right to finish his career in this way.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea are now preparing for their first FA Cup tie of the year, with the Blues set to take Norwich on Saturday in the third round.

The west London side were the Premier League’s top team last term as they won the title in style.
