Arsene Wenger confirms how Arsenal would replace Alexis Sanchez

Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal would move quickly to bring in players of “top quality” should the Gunners lose Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil this year.

The speculation about both players’ futures has been relentless in recent months after they both entered into the final periods of their contracts at The Emirates.

Sanchez was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City towards the end of the summer transfer window and he has inevitably once again been touted as a possible target for the Citizens.

Ozil has also been linked with a move away from Arsenal, with the German’s contract set to expire at the end of the season along with Sanchez and Jack Wilshere.

Arsenal are clearly still hopeful of being able to extend the trio’s contracts before they expire.

But Wenger has insisted that the Gunners are prepared to bring in some quality replacements if indeed they were to lose them at the end of the season or this month.

Asked what the plan would be if Alexis, Ozil and Wilshere left in the summer, Wenger told a news conference on Tuesday: “Well, how we will cope with that… first of all we have not lost them yet and secondly we will respond to that by bringing in players of top quality.

Then, asked if there had yet been any official bids for Ozil or Sanchez, he added: “We have not been contacted by anybody, no.”

Arsenal take on Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
