Antonio Conte believes that Tiemoue Bakayoko has been offering Chelsea a “good option” following his transfer to the club from Monaco last summer.
The midfielder has been getting used to life at Stamford Bridge after having signed for the Blues from Monaco.
Bakayoko has been making a mixed start to his career at Chelsea, with the midfielder seemingly struggle to adapt to the demands of English football at times this season.
Indeed, Bakayoko has been criticised by the likes of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard following his displays for the west London side this season.
Bakayoko has scored two goals and made two assists in 19 Premier League games for Chelsea this season and was also joined at Stamford Bridge by fellow signing Danny Drinkwater back in August.
And Conte believes that the two summer signings are giving his team a few different options in midfield this term.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Conte said: “Compared to last season, we changed players. We bought two central midfielders, Bakayoko and Drinkwater.
“For the characteristics of our players, to play with three midfielders is a good option. For me to be able to alternate two different systems, 3-4-3 and 3-5-2, is great.
“When we play against a big team, it’s very important to have more solidity with the three midfielders and two strikers, and to give more freedom to Eden [Hazard].”
Conte is currently preparing his Chelsea side for their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Blues head into that game looking for revenge, after Arsenal beat them in both the FA Cup final and Community Shield last season.
