Conte told Chelsea need to make this January signing: 24-year-old isn’t good enough

Ray Wilkins has warned that Chelsea need to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

The Blues have been using Eden Hazard in a lone role up front in their last two Premier League games in the absence of Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea signed the Spanish forward in a £58m deal from La Liga champions Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

The Premier League title holders made the surprise decision to allow Diego Costa to return to Atletico Madrid on loan.

Conte has been left short on options up front given his reluctance to rely upon second-choice striker Michy Batshuayi.

Morata has struggled with a back problem and tiredness in the current campaign to raise concerns about the summer signing.

Former Chelsea midfielder Wilkins questioned why the Blues didn’t sign Morata but keep Costa in his Chelsea squad.

”I honestly do believe [Conte wants signings],” Wilkins told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I can’t understand what happened with Costa. We should have Costa and Morata at Chelsea.

“Going on all four fronts, we need those two top strikers. Chelsea need another centre-forward.”

Chelsea have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons.

The Blues signed six players in the summer transfer window.
