Mark Lawrenson predicts outcome of Man United v Bournemouth

Mark Lawrenson has urged Manchester United to make a swift response to their derby disappointment with victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils lost 2-1 to Premier League leaders Manchester City at the weekend following goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi either side of half-time.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are 11 points of clear of their closest challengers Manchester United to leave the title race in the balance with 22 games to go.

The 20-time English champions have lost to defending Premier League champions Chelsea and runaway leaders Manchester City this season to leave Manchester United facing an uphill battle to become relevant in the title race.

Manchester United will welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford in search of an immediate return to winning ways despite dropping points in this fixture against Eddie Howe’s side last term.

Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson urged Manchester United to forget about the disappointment of a devastating blow to their title hopes in last weekend’s derby on Wednesday night.

“Bournemouth picked up a point last time, but I do not see that happening at Old Trafford this time around,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“Manchester United just have to bounce back from the disappointment of Sunday’s derby defeat, and forget about where it leaves their title hopes.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the Red Devils.

The Red Devils are looking to win the top-flight crown for the 21st time.
