Paul Scholes has suggested that Luke Shaw needs to step his game up at Manchester United to hold down a regular spot in the first team under Jose Mourinho.
The defender made his first start of the season in all competitions on Tuesday night when he played the full 90 minutes of Manchester United’s 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford in the Champions League.

Shaw has seemingly struggled to win over Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford since the Portuguese coach’s appointment in May 2016.
The Manchester United manager has publicly criticised the 22-year-old on a number of occasions and has found his first-team opportunities to be severely restricted.
Manchester United legend Scholes believes that Shaw should be living more “cleanly” away from the pitch and suggested that he has work to do to step his game up.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Scholes said: “It’s difficult to say [what’s happened with Shaw]. We don’t see what goes on behind the scenes.
“I don’t think he lives his life as cleanly as he possibly should do. He looks like a player who should be playing every week.
“We had Wayne Rooney who was a player who missed a couple of games and you knew! He needs to be playing all the time and I think Luke Shaw is exactly the same.”
Shaw will be hoping to be involved when Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday with a crunch clash against bitter local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.
A win for Mourinho’s men would move them five points behind the Premier League leaders heading into the hectic festive period in the top flight.
