Rio Ferdinand explains why he loves Man United midfielder so much

Rio Ferdinand admits that he is a huge admirer of Jesse Lingard at Manchester United.

The England international was in fine form for the Red Devils on Saturday as he scored two goals to help fire Manchester United to a 3-1 victory at Arsenal.

Lingard has not exactly been a regular fixture in the first team at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho so far this term, with the 24-year-old having only started three of Manchester United’s 15 Premier League games so far this season.

However, he has notched up three assists and scored three goals in the top flight to help Mourinho’s men up to second place in the table, behind leaders Manchester City.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand is a huge admirer of Lingard, despite admitting that the attacker does not always get the praise he deserves.

Speaking to BT Sport after Saturday’s win at Arsenal, Ferdinand said: “What’s great about him is as soon as the ball turns over, his first thought is how can he hurt the opposition with and without the ball. He knows where to be.

“He isn’t what kids go on Instagram to see because they don’t appreciate what he does for the team.”

Lingard will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Sunday with a crunch clash against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Victory for Mourinho’s men would move them to within five points of Manchester City as the hectic festive period in the Premier League looms large.
