Arsenal haven’t progressed unlike their title rivals, warns Ray Parlour

Arsenal have stayed still while rivals such as Tottenham Hotspur have progressed, according to Ray Parlour.

The Gunners have made a difficult start to the Premier League campaign as Arsenal look to make a return to the Champions League spots.

The north London side signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in a club-record £40m deal in the summer transfer window in an attempt to improve their attacking options.

The Gunners recruited Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Schalke 04 to improve their options at centre-half and left0-back.

However, the two additions haven’t helped Arsenal to raise their performance level and the Gunners sit in sixth place after 11 games in the 2017-18 season.

Indeed, Arsene Wenger’s side lost 3-1 to title rivals Manchester City in their last Premier League game before the international break to leave them 12 points adrift of the Citizens.

The Gunners have already conceded 16 times in 11 games in the Premier League this term to raise serious concerns about their defence.

Former Arsenal star Parlour believes the Gunners have fallen behind their top-four rivals due to a lack of progress.

“Arsenal need to be playing Champions League football,” Parlour told Newstalk.

“Spurs have improved. Lots of teams have improved. Arsenal have stayed still.”

For all of Arsenal’s issues under Wenger, the Gunners still managed to seal a 2-0 win against Tottenham in Saturday’s north London derby.

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.

The Gunners haven’t one the Premier League title since 2003-04.

Wenger’s men have won three FA Cup titles in the past four seasons.
