Michael Owen has issued his backing for Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool’s stuttering start to the new season.
The Reds have struggled to find consistent form since the start of the campaign and they already find themselves nine points behind leaders Manchester City after just eight games.
Liverpool did return to winning ways on Tuesday night with a thumping 7-0 victory over Maribor in the Champions League.
However, the Merseyside outfit have struggled to produce consistent displays in the top flight so far this season, and are already well off the pace in the race for the title.
But former Liverpool star Owen is convinced that Klopp is the right man for the job and the ex-striker is backing the German coach to turn things around at the club.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Owen said: “He has got that enthusiasm. It rubs off.
“I think the players do like him. The fans love him. Everybody is desperate for him to do well.”
Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crunch clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Klopp’s side were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United at Anfield last weekend to leave them in eighth place in the Premier League table.
Klopp, who took over at Anfield in October 2015, led Liverpool to a fourth-placed finish in the top flight last season.
