Pundit makes title prediction about Liverpool, Man United

Liverpool and Manchester United are capable of competing for the Premier League title next season, according to Pat Nevin.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are the only teams involved in the title race this season after a disappointing campaign for Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Indeed, Antonio Conte’s side are four points clear of second-placed Tottenham as the Italian coach looks to win the Premier League title for the first time.

Liverpool and the Manchester club are battling for a top-four finish with Jurgen Klopp’s side in pole position to secure a Champions League spot after a 2-1 win at Watford on Monday night.

The former Borssia Dortmund boss is making steady if unspectacular progress at the Merseyside outfit since his appointment back in October 2015.

Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola have struggled in their first seasons in charge of Manchester United and Manchester City.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website about their potential title rivals next season, former Scotland international Nevin said: “So with five games left there are only two rivals, Spurs in the League and Arsenal in the FA Cup.

“The expected northern revival looks to be behind schedule but I am not writing it off for next season whether it is Man City, Man United or Liverpool who arrive at the top table.

“In the meantime, it is all about the capital fare and the big three here. Let’s be honest, a double at any time is fantastic but one which would see off our two big local rivals would have a certain delicious flavour, one savoured for a rather long time in SW6 I suspect.”
