Michael Owen reacts to Liverpool’s 1-0 win at West Brom

Michael Owen hailed Roberto Firmino’s winner in an otherwise poor game between Liverpool and West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Brazil international Roberto Firmino wasted Liverpool’s first opportunity to make the breakthrough when the forward dragged his finish past the far post.

Philippe Coutinho scored Liverpool’s equaliser before Firmino’s stunning winner at Stoke City last weekend but the number 10 lacked composure when presented with the chance to break the deadlock at The Hawthorns.

However, his Brazilian team-mate Firmino did manage to make the breakthrough on the stroke of half-time after the forward got on the end of Lucas Leiva’s flick-on to steer a header past West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Stand-in Liverpool captain James Milner wasted a fine chance to make it 2-0 when the left-back fired over the crossbar from inside the West Brom area.

And Owen, who won the FA Cup, the League Cup twice and the Uefa Cup with the Anfield outfit, enjoyed Firmino’s moment of quality in an otherwise dull Premier League fixture at the Hawthorns Stadium.

Owen wrote: “Get in. Crap game so far but who cares!”
