Jose Mourinho could drop Paul Pogba for Manchester United’s home clash against Europa League opponents FC Rostov at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
The Red Devils will be looking to make a swift return to winning ways after a three-game run without a victory since beating Southampton 3-2 in the EFL Cup final at Wembley last month.
Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with Russian side FC Rostov in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash last week after Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored in the opening half.
Jose Mourinho’s side lost 1-0 to Premier League leaders Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge on Monday night following N’Golo Kante’s second-half winner.
Pogba struggled during last-eight clash as the world-record signing was accused of going missing during another big game for the 20-time English champions.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Manchester United midfielder Pogba, former Arsenal playmaker Nicholas tipped Mourinho to drop the £89m star for the visit of Russian FC Rostov on Thursday night.
“Paul Pogba has been quiet and question marks remain over his value and his role and I wouldn’t be surprised if Jose Mourinho was tempted to leave him out as a reminder of how much he needs to improve,” Nicholas said.
“He tries all this Hollywood stuff in the middle of the park rather than where is matters and he only seems interested in firing his passes into Zlatan, so I wouldn’t be surprised is somebody like Marouane Fellaini were to come in.”
Pogba moved to Manchester United in a world-record £89m deal from Serie A champions Juventus last summer.
