Chris Smalling urges Man United to sign this player up now

Chris Smalling has urged Manchester United to tie Zlatan Ibrahimovic down to a new contract as quickly as possible.

The Swedish striker arrived at Old Trafford on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United first team.

At 35 years old, there had been some questions about whether Ibrahimovic would be able to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League.

However, the veteran forward has put any doubts about his ability behind him by scoring more than 20 goals for the Red Devils this season.

Manchester United have the option to extend Ibrahimovic’s stay at Old Trafford for at least another year.

And Smalling has admitted that he would like to see Ibrahimovic stay at Manchester United for as long as possible following a brilliant start to his career at Old Trafford.

Smalling is quoted as saying by The Daily Express: “He just wants to score goals; he’s a real focal point for the attack.

“Even when we have not been playing well he has managed to score and when you can rely on someone like that it’s brilliant

“You see how he has performed this season and all the goals he has scored, if we can keep a player like that for as long as we can all the players would be very happy.

“I don’t think age is a factor at the moment. He has played as many games as anyone in the squad and contributed a lot.

“I know how hard he is to play against because sometimes I come up against him in training.

“We have a nice battle, but I am glad it is only training. I am lucky I don’t have to play against him in a game.”
