Paul Merson states prediction for Stoke City v Man United

Paul Merson says he doesn’t expect Manchester United to drop points at Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils had won nine games on the spin before the visit of Liverpool at Old Trafford last weekend when Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s late header cancelled out James Milner’s penalty and rescued a point for the hosts.

Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 12 points behind current leaders Chelsea after a mixed start to life under new manager Jose Mourinho.

Stoke, meanwhile, were 3-1 winners against Premier League strugglers Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last weekend as Mark Hughes’s side moved up to ninth place in the table.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Manchester United’s trip to the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon, former Arsenal midfielder Merson backed Mourinho’s men to ease to a 3-1 win against the Potters.

“Stoke had a good result last week but the week before they were losing at home to Wolves in the FA Cup,” Merson said.

“I have been very surprised with their inconsistency. Manchester United will be very disappointed with the draw against Liverpool. It was a poor penalty to give away at any level of football. I don’t like going against Stoke at home but United are still unbeaten and flying along.”
