Jamie Carragher explains why Man United will be concerned about Tottenham

Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham this weekend could end up being make or break for the Red Devils’ hopes of finishing in the top four.

Jose Mourinho found himself under fresh pressure at the weekend after his United side were pegged back at Everton and once again held to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

Manchester United have struggled to produce consistent performances in the Premier League under their new manager following Mourinho’s appointment back in May.

Indeed, the Red Devils have only won two of their last 10 Premier League games to leave them off the pace in the race for the title.

United are currently 13 points behind leaders Chelsea and six points adrift of Tottenham, who are currently fifth in the table.

And Liverpool legend Carragher has talked up the importance of United’s clash with Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “There’s no doubt Manchester United will have Spurs in their eyes in terms of the team that they probably have to catch.

“A Spurs win would put Manchester United in a really difficult position.

“Manchester United will look at it as a game that if they win, they’ll be right back in contention.

“Three points is nothing. If it went to nine, it is looking really difficult for Manchester United to get in the top four.”

Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season under Louis van Gaal. Tottenham, meanwhile, ended up third and without a trophy.
