Guru's Random Thoughts II

I've been away from the computer for a couple days, but there are a lot of things that have went on in those few days. And the Guru aims to impress. So here are a couple things that I have been thinking about in the past few days.

1.) What the hell is going on with the Memphis Grizzlies? They beat the Spurs in 6 games, something that only the great Charles Barkley could have predicted. Then, they go into Oklahoma City and beat an above average Thunder team on their own floor pretty convincingly. Could an 8 seed really come out of the West and go to the Western Conference Finals? I think they can. Zach Randolph is an absolute beast. He is way underrated in the NBA, and now people are just starting to take notice of him. Watch out, if the Grizz steal a game on Tuesday night, that series might be over before it even started.

2.) The NFL Draft was amazing. There was a lot of depth in this year's draft and a lot of teams did well in addressing those needs. The draft did not fail to intrigue and impress as every year does. There were emotions, happiness, drama and trades, what every NFL Draft should have. Even in midst of a lockout, the draft brings all football fans together in the beginning of summer. Cam Newton went first overall like many had predicted, and the draft went on without a hitch, despite the boo-birds coming out aimed at Roger Goodell.

3.) Jered Weaver finally loses a game. He could not get his 7th consecutive win to start the season, but he still has a microscopic ERA and I forsee that he will continue to play good ball this season for LAA.

4.) Paul Pierce's ejection in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference was totally uncalled for and should not have happened, something that I listened to on the Scott Van Pelt show really does summarize that situation. Do you think the NBA really said a good job to the officials for throwing out the Celtics' most proven scorer when the team was down 9 points? No. I know that stars are not supposed to get preferable treatment, but I agree with that. I agree that the first technical foul was warranted, Pierce went up to James Jones and hit him in the face, I get that one. But the second one that got him the boot was not warranted and potentially changed the outcome of that game.

5.) Congratulations to Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls for winning the MVP Award this year in the NBA. I still hold my views that LeBron James should have been the MVP in this league this year, but Derrick Rose is definitely a worthy recipient of the award. He might mean more to his team than any other player not named Dwight Howard, and more importantly to the city he plays in. Congratulations on a great season.

6.) Heat v. Celtics will be a good series. What will happen? I don't know. But if I had to bet I would bet that the Heat will win the series in 7 games, the home team will win every game in my opinion. We will find out soon enough.

7.) The Sacramento Kings will be the Sacramento Kings and not the Anaheim Kings like previously thought. For now. THey have one more year to make things right in that city. The city is boring and not exciting for the NBA world, their arena is one of the oldest, and the fans and the players want a new one. The owner there has one more year to erect a new stadium or the city of Sacramento can say good-bye to their very own sports franchise.

*On another note, I'm sure if you are reading this that you all know about the happenings in the Middle East on Sunday. Osama Bin Laden has been killed by Navy Seals. This marks a historic day in United States history and is a great plus for Barack Obama and his supporting cast.

Make sure that you comment, and also listen to the complete first round of the NFL Draft on my podcast coming up here at the top of the hour!
