Dave Tippett officially named head coach of Edmonton Oilers

It’s Dave Tippett’s turn to try his luck at turning the Edmonton Oilers around, as he will be named the eighth Oilers head coach in 12 seasons

Tippett has 14 years of NHL head coaching experience. He recently spent eight seasons with the Arizona Coyotes. Tippett has a career record of 553-413-28-120.

Tippett’s hiring completes a regime change that began with the firing of head coach Todd McLellan and general manager Peter Chiarelli during the 2018-19 season, with the Oilers handing the reins to new GM Ken Holland, who today hires Tippett to be his head man.

“Dave brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the organization,” said General Manager and Oilers President of Hockey Operations Ken Holland. “He is a great communicator and has consistently led teams known for their level of compete. I look forward to seeing Dave guide the Oilers this fall and we are all excited to have him on board.”

There are absolutely no excuses for this franchise now. The team now has some of the top minds in the hockey world in charge. Couple that with some of the best young talent, and there is no reason for this not to work. In fact, if it fails again, as an everyday Edmonton Oilers fan I’m not even sure what the next steps would be.
