Week 13 NFL Predictions

  • Eagles over Texans (34-24) Win: Vick rescues Eagles after defense blows 17-3 lead and surrenders 431 total yards . . . Philly penalized a whopping 11 times . . .
  • New Orleans over Cincinnati (34-30) Win: Sure Drew Brees is good. But we already knew that. What is newsworthy is the incompetence of the Saints defense, which surrendered 30 points to a weak, and soon-to-be-dismantled, Cincinnati Bengals club . . .
  • Chicago over Detroit (24-20) Win: The only thing less surprising than Detroit blowing a game in the fourth-quarter is referee Ed Hochuli being criticized for another questionable call . . . The Bears may be the worst 9-3 NFL team I have ever seen . . .
  • Green Bay over San Francisco (34-16) Win: The only question I had entering this game was how many TDs Aaron Rodgers would throw. The answer: three . . .
  • Jacksonville over Tennessee (17-6) Win: 186 yards on 31 carries. That is six yards per carry. An O.J. Simpson or Eric Dickerson-type performance by Maurice Jones-Drew . . .
  • Kansas City over Denver (10-6) Win: Zzzzz . . .The two QBs were a combined 26 of 59. Pretty bad . . .
  • Cleveland over Miami (13-10) Loss: Chad Henne throws three INTs as the Dolphins fall to 1-5 at home. This was as unwatchable as Chiefs-Broncos . . .
  • Minnesota over Buffalo (38-14) Loss: Favre is blasted from the game in the first series and suffers a sprained shoulder. Adrian Peterson and Tarvaris Jackson combine for five TDs to lead Minnesota to an impressive demolition of the Buffalo Bills . . .
  • NY Giants over Washington (31-7) Win: A rout at the Meadowlands. Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw rush for a combined 200 yards and four TDs. Giants defense sacks Donovan McNabb four times and forces six Redskins' turnovers . . .
  • Oakland over San Diego (28-13) Loss: Well, they had me fooled. Just when it looked as if they might be the best team in football, San Diego delivers an embarrassing effort and watches their playoff hopes plummet faster than the Dow Jones. Oakland's offense rushes for 251 yards and its defense forces two turnovers . . .
  • Dallas over Indianapolis (38-35) Loss: Four Manning INTs and the Colts are a .500 club . . . Cowboys are rolling and are capable of beating anybody in the league right now. Next week's showdown against Philly will be fun to watch . . .
  • St. Louis over Arizona (19-6) Win: No surprise here. The Cards have now lost seven straight. Does it really matter who they play? . . .
  • Seattle over Carolina (31-14) Win: Carolina is 1-11. Enough said . . .
  • Atlanta over Tampa Bay (28-24) Win: Resilient win for the Falcons. Matt Ryan overcomes two INTs to lead Atlanta to a fourth-quarter comeback victory . . .
  • Pittsburgh over Baltimore (13-10) Loss: Ben Roethlisberger is now 8-2 in his career against Baltimore. Until the Ravens learn how to beat Pittsburgh they cannot be considered serious Super Bowl contenders. Yesterday the Ravens surrendered a 10-6 fourth quarter lead when Joe Flacco fumbled after being sacked by Troy Polamalu . . .

Prior to tonight's Patriots-Jets game, my Week 13 predictions are 10-5 . . .

It's all about job security--even in the MLB. Yesterday, right-handed power-hitter Jayson Werth agreed to a seven year deal with the Washington Nationals for a reported $126 million. Agent Scott Boras can talk all he wants about Werth wanting to go someplace committed to winning, but this was about capitalizing on a long-term offer that he was probably not going to receive elsewhere . . . Werth's signing became necessary to the Nats after Adam Dunn signed a four year deal with the White Sox last week . . .

It's good the Yanks and Derek Jeter have agreed to terms, but it's difficult to imagine Jeter forgiving and forgetting some of the comments Brian Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner made during the negotiations . . .

The Red Sox are expected to announce today the acquisition of San Diego Padres 1B Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez has hit at least 30 HRs and 99 RBIs in each of the past four seasons . . .
